This fine quality and ornately hand painted late Victorian satinwood kneehole writing desk features a breakfront design with a shaped back. The desk has extensive hand painting of scroll work patterns and cherubs at various pursuits and features the original 3 part sectioned leather top. The desk also has cross banded borders around the drawers and panels, with engraved, silver plated pull handles for the drawers. The central drawer is flanked by four single drawers on one side, and double depth drawers on the other. The central drawer bears a label for S.H. Jewell, London, a very prominent cabinetmaker of the period. This outstanding and delightful desk would make an excellent decorator’s piece or focal point for a wide range of rooms and settings. It measures 51 ½ in – 130.8 cm wide, 24 ¾ in – 62.8 cm deep and 29 ¾ in – 75.5 cm in height, with a knee height of 24 in – 61 cm.
